On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution, proposed by India, declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The resolution was adopted with a record 175 co-sponsors, the highest number ever for any General Assembly resolution.

The resolution recognizes that “yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being,” and that “it can contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.”.

June 21, 2015- The first International Yoga Day was celebrated. Since then, it has been celebrated annually by people from all over the world.
